Schools Liason Officer

Responsibilities of postholder
  • Liase with local schools for the purpose of advising on the creation and maintenance of wildlife areas in their grounds.
  • Produce written advice for schools as required, in the form of leaflets and newsletter articles.
  • Prepare reports for the Trustees Board and the newsletter on school-related activities.
  • Provide practical assistance to schools on request if possible within available WWG resources or by arrangement with other organisations.
  • Give talks to schools on wildlife and conservation issues.

Postholder skills
  • Possess good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Have the ability to get on well with young children, teenagers and adults.
  • Have some experience of undertaking conservation tasks related to the creation and maintenance of wildlife gardens or wildlife habitats in schoolgrounds.
  • Have some knowledge of the requirements of the National Curriculum as it relates to environmental studies.
  • Have some knowledge of where to obtain further information on conservation and wildlife issues that relate to environmental education.
  • Some experience of schools and the constraints under which they work would be desirable.
  • Possession of police clearance certificate to work with children (or a willingness to obtain such clearance) would be necessary to enable the postholder to undertake the full range of responsibilities of the post.
