Monday 21st May 7.30 – 9.45pm
Wycombe Wildlife Group AGM starting promptly at 7.30pm, to be followed at 8pm by an illustrated talk by Martin Woolner entitled “The small-scale life of an oak tree”. Martin is an expert entomologist and regular speaker for the Woodland Trust. The talk will be taking a close look at all sorts of small things found on, in and under an English oak tree. Venue: Trinity United Reformed Church, London Road, High Wycombe, HP11 1BJ (opposite Pann Mill). Car park at rear of building (free after 7pm). Admission to talk £3 (includes refreshments).

Butterfly walk. A walk around Smalldean Bank and Park Wood, looking for Duke of Burgundy butterflies, following their recent reintroduction there. Moth trapping and identification. Local “Moth Night” event at Holtspur Bottom Reserve. Park by scout hut in Cherry Tree Road (OS map ref SU923904), walk down Holtspur Top Lane and turn left into Riding Lane. Meet at reserve entrance (OS map ref SU918906). Monday 25th June 10am
Survey walk at Sands Bank LNR. Join Roger Wilding and Paul Bowyer for a walk around this chalk grassland and woodland reserve, recording the species found. If you lack identification skills, please come and treat this as a training opportunity - you won’t feel out of place, as no-one ever stops learning. Meet by entrance gates to Adams Park at end of Hillbottom Road, Sands (OS map ref SU 834931). Parking in this area is difficult, so you might wish to park somewhere in Sands before you get to Hillbottom Road and walk to the meeting point. Stay as long as you wish, but bring something to eat and drink if staying beyond 1pm. For more information contact 01494 438374.

Butterfly walk in Homefield Wood. This walk, looking for woodland and grassland butterflies, will be led by Martin Robinson, a long-standing volunteer for Butterfly Conservation. Invasive weed management. Revive the Wye task led by Wycombe Wildlife Group, with help from Earthworks Conservation Volunteers, to remove Indian Balsam plants from the river alongside the Rye. Meet in Holywell Mead Swimming Pool car park. Bring wellingtons, waterproof gloves and a pair of secateurs if you have them. Some waders will be available for use in deep water. Moth trapping at Hughenden. This event will be in the Walled Garden at Hughenden Manor alongside the wildflower garden created and managed by Wycombe Wildlife Group. Park in coach parking area outside the woodland car park (OS map ref SU861954) and meet by metal gate to the walled garden (opposite the picnic area between the woodland car park and the entrance to Hughenden Manor).
